Our Vision
A thriving trails network connecting communities and meeting the diverse needs of trail users in the Near North
Our Mission
To invest in partnerships for the development and promotion of sustainable multi-use trails and active transportation systems throughout the Near North. Our collaboration and support through the sharing of resources, raising awareness, education and technology connects citizens and visitors while stimulating economic growth, encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle and appreciation for the natural beauty and history of the region.
How We Get There
Discovery Routes is a registered charity guided by a Strategic Plan developed in collaboration with our community-based Trails Partners including the local volunteer trail groups, landowners and municipalities that build, manage and maintain local trails and the agencies and organizations that promote use of the local trails and active transportation networks. We support the development and promote the use of trails in support of well-being, tourism, strong communities, and environmental appreciation and protection.
Where We Serve
Discovery Routes’ region includes the area from Mattawa to French River, and from Sprucedale to Marten River. We acknowledge that the vast network of trails exist on the traditional lands and waterways of the Anishinaabe people within the territory protected by the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850 and Williams Treaties of 1923. By recognizing and honouring the original trail stewards, we aim to work together in a collaborative society, where all can connect meaningfully with the rich history of the lands and waters we cherish.
